ISO14001 or EMAS ?

Every organization trying to decrease its ecological impact can set up an Environment Management System.

Two frameworks can be used:

* ISO 14001, defined by the International Standardization Organization in 1996 and reviewed in 2004
* EMAS (Eco Management and Audit Scheme). EMAS is the EU tool for measuring the continuous efforts an organization makes in improving its environmental performances.

Both cover noticeably the same aspects. Both define the environmental policy of the organization and the environmental improvement objectives. EMAS goes even further by requiring an environmental declaration written in a way it can be understood by most people. That’s the the main difference between both frameworks.
