The selling price amounts to about SEK 1.1 billion and the buyer is Norrporten. The transfer is scheduled to take place in the fourth quarter.

Hagaporten 3 has been one of Skanska’s high-profile projects. Construction of the 28,000 square meter building commenced in the spring of 2006 and it was ready for tenants to move into by October 2008.

The building is leased at 97 percent capacity and approximately two thirds of it is rented by the technology consultancy company ÅF, which contributed to its design. With its distinctive profile close to the E4 motorway, the building has become a landmark of the northern approach to Stockholm.

The building was constructed with high environmental ambitions and is one of Sweden’s first to be classed as a Green Building. The building has also received various accolades, such as for environmental work and architecture.

“This transaction is a key step in our aim for long-term growth in the capital city. The property consists of modern facilities with high flexibility. Furthermore, it has been built with high environmental ambitions and is housing a good tenant composition. These were the main factors in Norrporten’s decision to acquire the property,” says Jörgen Lundgren, Executive Vice President at Norrporten.

“We have worked together with Norrporten on several previous occasions, and feel comfortable knowing the tenants will be transferred to a company with a long-term approach to its property holdings,” says Jan Odelstam, President of Skanska Commercial Development Nordic.

Skanska Commercial Development Nordic initiates and develops property projects in offices, logistics, business premises and commercial buildings. The company’s operations are concentrated in the three metropolitan regions in Sweden, the Copenhagen region in Denmark, the Oslo region in Norway, as well as Helsinki in Finland. The development of logistics and volume retail properties is conducted in strategic locations in Sweden, Denmark and Finland.

HP is offering the DataPass mobile broadband service with its new 3G-enabled Elitebook business laptops, which were also announced on Monday. The service provides access to 3G data networks in the U.S., and does not require a user to sign a monthly or yearly contract with a wireless carrier.

The DataPass service can be purchased easily in blocks through the laptop, and users don’t need to pay any activation fee, said Mike Hockey, an HP spokesman.

Users can buy a US$5 data plan for 75MB of data over 5 hours, $10 for 150MB of data over 3 days, $20 for 450MB of data over 14 days, or $30 for 1GB of data over 30 days.

The service is available in the U.S. only and worldwide availability is being explored, Hockey said. The service is 3G-only, and access to 4G networks is not yet offered through the service.

The service is available only with HP laptops, which could include optional hardware such as a modem to access 3G networks. Software on the laptop shows availability of a DataPass network at the user’s location.

The company does not intend to become a telecom service provider, and the service is being provided as a convenience to customers, Hockey said. Users can continue using mobile broadband services from other network providers such as Verizon, AT&T or T-Mobile, he added.

In November 2008, ISO published ISO 9001:2008 – the fourth and latest edition of the quality management system requirements standard. How has it changed? Hector Nairn reports.

In truth, ISO 9001:2008 is only slightly changed from the 2000 edition. It was reviewed just as all standards are – to ensure that they stay relevant and useful.

In the case of ISO 9001, which now has a million certifications in 170 countries, the review process is especially rigorous. Around 1,000 organizations participated in an extensive user-feedback survey and the results were extensively analysed. This exercise demonstrated that, in the words of Charles Corrie, secretary of the ISO drafting committee responsible for the ISO 9000 series, “Internationally, the companies using this standard are comfortable with where the standard is at the moment.” Hence the small amendments.

“We want to constantly monitor the standard to ensure that it’s still giving leading-edge advice to organizations to help them be competitive,” says Corrie. “We don’t want an outdated standard that is no longer helpful to the marketplace.”
